KNB and FSB disrupted the activities of organized crime groups in Baikonur

The National Security Committee of Kazakhstan (KNB), together with the Federal Security Service of Russia, has stopped the activities of an organized criminal group (OCG) in the city of Baikonur, reports today, January 4, the press service KNB extension.

According to the republic’s intelligence services, the organized crime group included citizens of Kazakhstan and Russia. Those involved in the activities of the criminal group were also detained in the cities of Astana, Kyzylorda and Konaev.

In total, 18 leaders and active members of the organized crime group were arrested during the special operation. Weapons, cash and other material of interest to the investigation were seized from the suspects.

According to the KNB, the group was engaged in kidnapping, extortion, armed robbery and theft, its members were known for their cruelty in committing serious and above all serious crimes.

For many months, the KNB officers have been carefully developing the special operation, carrying out a complex of operational measures and research techniques in agreement with the prosecutor’s office.

As noted in the KNB, the organized crime group had a negative impact on the crime situation in the cities of Kyzylorda and Baikonur. For example, in September 2022, during an armed conflict between members of a criminal group, a passerby was shot dead while crossing the street.
