Liverpool –
Liverpool got a severe test when facing Chelsea this weekend. Manager Jürgen Klopp confirmed absent because positive COVID-19.
Duel Chelsea vs Liverpool held at Stamford Bridge, Sunday (2/1/2021) evening WIB. Three points is a fixed price for both teams because Manchester City now leads the Premier League standings with 53 points from 21 matches.
There is a distance of 11 points from Chelsea in second place and 12 points from Liverpool in third. Both must not slip again if they still want to catch City in the second half of the season.
Ironically Liverpool and Chelsea are both in trouble ahead of this duel due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There were many players from both camps who had to be absent due to being exposed to the virus from Wuhan, China.
Finally, bad news emerged from Liverpool when Klopp was also reported to have tested positive for the corona virus following a routine PCR test on Friday (12/31/2021).
The test was carried out following three Liverpool players who were exposed. Although not named, the British media estimated Alisson Becker, Roberto Firmino and Naby Keita because they missed the last training session.
Klopp is claimed to have mild symptoms and is currently isolated for the next three games. After Chelsea, there are matches against Arsenal (English League Cup semi-finals) and Shrewsbury Town (FA Cup) that Klopp has missed.
In addition to the three players plus Jurgen Klopp, there are also three coaching staff who have the same fate and are currently in quarantine.
“Jürgen Klopp will miss Sunday’s Premier League match against Chelsea due to the positive test result for COVID-19,” the statement read Liverpool.
“The Reds manager has mild symptoms and is currently isolated. Assistant manager Pep Lijnders will take over the team for the match at Stamford Bridge,” he continued.
