Klopp has great words for his successor at Liverpool – 2024-08-24 12:06:34

Jurgen Klopp has said he believes Arne Slott’s imprint on the Liverpool squad is already “obvious”. Slott took charge of his first Premier League game last Saturday and led the Merseysiders to a 2-0 success against Ipswich.

“Arne, yes. A really good coach. I was really happy when I heard that Liverpool were targeting Arne Slott. I wasn’t involved in anything, it shouldn’t be, and I’m not that kind of guy in the background who always has some threads and other things. I don’t want that. The club is too good. The people are too good,” said Klopp in an interview with the Dutch version.

“A lot has changed since we left. But the only worry for me was whether they would get a good coach. Liverpool act early and Liverpool got a top, top, top solution in Arne Slott.”

“I like his football a lot, (how) (Feyenoord) played, so that’s really good. I saw the Sevilla game, the pre-season test at Anfield – big parts of it were really good. And the league game (against Ipswich), the second half was obviously really good,” said the German.

“But it doesn’t matter that I like it, you see he’s a very good coach and the team that I now know better than most is a really good squad, a really good team. So it’s going to work out really well.” he added.

Klopp and Slott remain in touch.

“We talked once or twice (in the beginning). I think we texted a few more times. But there’s nothing I can tell him that he can’t know himself. Right now, from my side, just giving a positive feedback at the beginning because we are all human and he works hard,” revealed Klopp.

“When I saw the games, that’s why I was watching them, not to think, ‘Oh, what does the team look like?’ The work he did was obvious, the ideas obvious. And that’s the best thing you can say about the coach,” added the former Reds coach.
