Jürgen Klopp didn’t like Sadio Mané at all at first. The Liverpool star, now one of the best attackers in the world, reminded the German manager of a rapper.
Klopp had the chance to bring Mané to Borussia Dortmund in 2014, but retired when the then Red Bull Salzburg player came to talk. “He thought I looked like a rapper,” reveals Mané in conversation with The Guardian.
“But I think I gave the best of myself, so what else can I say about it? Life is like that, you never know how other people judge you,” added the Liverpool striker. Klopp once called it ‘one of his biggest mistakes in his career’.
“I think he was wrong, absolutely,” said Mané. “I knew I had to show him more until we meet again.” In the summer of 2016, it still came to a collaboration, when Liverpool soaked him at Southampton.
