Jürgen Klopp not at all interested in the idea World Cup held every two years. It proves FIFA indeed the currency.
The idea of holding the World Cup every two years was floated by the former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger. Wenger expressed the idea in his capacity as FIFA’s Head of Global Football Development.
Wenger reasoned that he wanted to present a quality spectacle. In addition, the man from France also assessed that the players will undergo a simpler competition because qualification does not need to go through a long process.
With the World Cup being held every four years, there will be four qualifying periods from September to November and March. This will certainly be detrimental to the club considering that the players’ energy has been drained in the competition.
Meanwhile, if the World Cup is every two years, the qualifying period can be cut in half. However, Wenger’s idea is likely to be difficult to materialize because the resistance is so tight.
England manager Gareth Southgate said the biennial World Cup would reduce its appeal, while UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said the tournament would lose its prestige if it was held too often.
Unlike the two colleagues, Klopp as Liverpool manager called the idea ridiculous and only thought about money. Because FIFA does not care about the physical and mental health of the players.
With a busy competition schedule, the players should get more rest time.
