KLM sends youngest Boeing 747 to the desert

The PH-BFY was delivered new to KLM in April 2002, and was the last passenger Boeing 747 to enter service with the airline.

Initially, KLM wanted to remove the Boeing 747-400s from strength in 2021, but the corona crisis accelerated that process.

Various Boeing 747-400s have already left the KLM fleet over the years. Most aircraft were stored or scrapped at airports in the Americas, Spain and Great Britain. Two jumbos also went under the demolition hammer at Twente Airport. The PH-BFY is flown to the Mojave Desert with a stopover in Chicago.

KLM currently uses three more Boeing 747-400 combis for cargo flights to Asia. In addition, the airline has four cargo aircraft, which are flown by Martinair.
