KLM sends face masks to Chinese partners due to virus | Interior

On Saturday morning, KLM boss Pieter Elbers, together with director KLM Health Services, Brinio Veldhuijzen van Zanten, handed over a shipment of three containers to a representative of China Eastern. “We have established close relationships in China over the last twenty years. In this difficult time we would like to assist them, wherever possible, “says Elbers.

Every week, before the outbreak of the corona crisis, 59 flights by KLM and partners went from Schiphol to the Asian country. “Due to the speed of developments, no one can predict exactly what steps might still have to be taken in the coming period,” the CEO writes to KLM staff on Saturday afternoon. About 500 people are at home because the flights have been suspended.

KLM decided earlier until at least March 15 to no longer fly to China. The airline follows the situation closely and indicates that the health and safety of staff and customers are paramount. KLM, by the way, still flies to destinations that are close to China, such as Hong Kong and Taipei. The downtime costs the airline approximately € 15 million per week.
