KLM airline will be fined for late or non-direct repayment of canceled airline tickets in the corona crisis. This has been determined by the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT). The amount of the fine is not yet known.
The ILT says it will impose the sanction to prevent empty-handed passengers remain standing if rules are insufficiently observed. In addition to KLM, airlines such as Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines and Air Arabia Maroc will also be fined.
Money back or another flight
Reimbursing tickets purchased from a travel agency or online platform is not going well, says ILT. These travel agencies also have bankrupt D-reizen. “Passengers actually never receive the ticket money back within seven days. Also, the choice is not always offered between money back or another flight. Moreover, airlines do not provide enough information about passenger rights.”
KLM CEO Pieter Elbers says in a response to the ANP news agency that he will look carefully at the issue and want to talk to the ILT. According to Elbers, the last two years have been particularly complicated for his company, but KLM has always tried to treat its customers in the best possible way.
