The aircraft in question after landing at Schiphol

NOS News

A KLM aircraft that was en route from Schiphol to Johannesburg returned to the airport because a fire had broken out en route. During the flight, a fire was detected in the aft galley of the aircraft. It was then decided to return for security reasons.

According to occupants, the plane was flying near Nice when an oven caught fire. The passengers were then led to the front of the aircraft, after which the fire could be extinguished by the staff.

The aircraft landed safely at Schiphol. Passengers and crew have been received on site and are doing well, according to the airport. The cause of the fire is under investigation. It is not clear how long that investigation will take.
