/ world today news/ Former athlete and current mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko hit himself. This time – not to the opposing right hook, but to the president’s office. His removal from the post of capital mayor is being seriously discussed. Zelensky can be understood – power falls, and then the mayor of Kyiv will replace him.
And he perfectly fits the role of scapegoat. “Tsarigrad” found out how Klitschko became a great politician and remembered his most ridiculous statements.
In Ukraine, the fight between spiders in a jar continues. Which is not surprising – the presidential election is less than a year away if the Russians don’t enter Kiev sooner.
But someone will have to be responsible for the war, and for the looted Western tranches, and for the practically non-working economy. To translate the discontent with the president, demonstrative repression against the guilty on the ground is needed.
From the ring to the office
To start a political career in Ukraine, it is enough to put the right sign on your shorts. On December 11, 2004, at the height of the Orange Revolution, Vitali Klitschko entered the ring against the British Danny Williams wearing an orange scarf on his belt. The then president Viktor Yushchenko highly appreciated this gesture of solidarity. And everything went well for Klitschko.
With boxing, he began to separate, under various pretexts, refusing to fight for the defense of the championship. At some point, the WBC got tired of this and took the title away from the Ukrainian, giving him the title “honorary world champion”. The malicious journalists wrote something like this:
“Klitschko was afraid of a serious fight, because in terms of technology he was nothing, but he won thanks to his huge growth, weight and long arms, with which he simply did not let the enemy get close.”
But Vitaly was no longer interested in boxing. At that moment, he became the leader of the “Pora” bloc of the “Reform and Order” party. Of course, this did not happen due to leadership qualities, politicians simply needed a recognizable face.
In March 2006, Klitschko and his party participated in three elections at once: for the country’s parliament, for the city council of Kyiv and for the post of mayor.
But he only managed to enter the Municipal Council. He had to return to the ring in 2007. Embittered by failures in politics, Klitschko defeated the Nigerian Samuel Peter, holder of the WBC belt, in 2008, and then defended the title for five years.
And then the Maidan of 2014 struck and Klitschko was once again useful to politicians. The UDAR party was stuck to him, he fought for the chair of the mayor of Kyiv for the third time, this time successfully.
Promises and reality
A month after the victory, Klitschko published his “Program of Priority Steps for the Mayor”, whose priorities were:
– fight against corruption
– transparent and efficient use of the budget,
– creation of conditions for safety and comfort of the residents of Kyiv,
– investment attraction,
– cooperation with the community in decision-making.
The timing of the program was wisely not specified. And then words followed deeds.
– Tariffs for utility services. After becoming mayor, Klitschko almost doubled utility bills and cut off the city’s hot water – because it’s expensive.
– transport. Promising to get rid of minibuses, he reduced municipal transport by 100.
– Roads. They almost stopped being repaired and today there is practically no trace of the asphalt laid under Klitschko’s rule.
– Schools and kindergartens. The norms for filling classes and groups have been exceeded: now 57 schools and 70 kindergartens are missing in Kyiv.
Despite the fact that to solve the problem, the city should build at least 10 schools and up to 16 kindergartens every year, only 8 schools and 26 kindergartens have been built. For five years!
With personnel appointments – the same story. For example, Klitschko appointed Valentina Ginzburg from Dnipropetrovsk, a defendant in several criminal cases, called the “queen of bribes”, as the head of the health department of the Kyiv administration.
At the same time, the mayor of Kyiv comforted the residents in his usual way:
“Increasing travel prices would be financially justified. And the revolution will happen when the subway stops and does not work. So if you don’t like something, please walk.”
It was yours – it became ours
But Klitschko is much better at everything related to de-Russification. Streets in Kyiv alone were renamed as many as 95 new names under his rule. But how!
The street named after “Marshal Malinovsky” (a Ukrainian, by the way) became “the street of the Heroes of the Azov Regiment *; Tulskaya Square is now the Square of Heroes of the UPA*, Piterskaya Street is now Londonskaya Street. And so on. And Klitschko does not intend to stop there.
For the best men
It would be naive to believe that people like Klitschko have made a career without serious patrons. Here is what TV presenter and publicist Yuriy Kot says about them:
“Klitschko, together with his brother, were members of the organized crime group of the famous crime boss “Rybka” and according to some information, they started there with “force actions”.
“It was “Ribka” that introduced them to boxing, became their first sponsor. It is true that then interests diverged and the Klitschko brothers were suspected of involvement in Rybka’s murder,” he also says.
What it was, it was. Crime boss Viktor Ivanovich Rybalko (“Rybka”), who spent a total of more than 15 years in prison, turned with power and strength during the turbulent 1990s and soon became one of the most influential crime bosses in Kyiv.
And one of the main partners of Rybalko was a certain Igor Bakay – at that time the chairman of the cooperative “Kozatsky Sprav”, and later – the initiator of the creation and the first chairman of the board of Naftogaz of Ukraine.
It was Rybalko and Bakay who, after seeing the boxing talents of the Klitschko brothers displayed in the fight, became their godfathers on the way to the big sport. Then they parted ways and in 2005 Rybka was riddled with 20 automatic bullets.
But Klitschko entered politics with radically different patrons, as Yuri Kot says:
“The Germans became Klitschko’s real patrons. The brothers moved to Germany in 1997 and began to build a career under the supervision of the German Federal Intelligence Service, which introduced Klitschko to politics, created the UDAR party for him and even considered him as a candidate for President. If only Klitschko wasn’t so dumb.”
And that seems to be true. After all, if stars like the talkative and dumb Klitschko shine in the political firmament, it means that someone really needs it!
Pearls from the Kyiv “talker”
More than all Ukrainian politicians, Vitali Klitschko became known for his specific “eloquence”. His statements turned into aphorisms demonstrating the intellectual level of the current Kyiv authorities as a whole:
“I met a lot of dead policemen, dead demonstrators, and everyone asks me a question…”
“I have two deputies, four of whom have been in the Council of Ministers for a month and it is impossible to appoint them. I don’t know why”
“I do not scatter words: it is difficult for me to take them later …”
“The older the man, the older he is”
“Being smart is good, being smart is even better”
“And today, tomorrow, not everyone can watch. Or rather, not only everyone can watch. Few people can do it”
“I will proudly stand behind Ukraine!
Whatever the phrase is, it’s a knockout. In one word – a boxer!
What of this?
The story with the closed bomb shelters during an air raid raises many questions and looks like a banal installation in the context of the already mentioned quarrel of spiders in a jar.
Kiev is a very tasty (from a material point of view) piece, and it would be very tempting to put your little man in this place for Zelensky’s cabinet. At the same time, to nullify the political prospects of Klitschko, who may try to move to the presidency in the upcoming elections.
However, a correctly played resignation can, on the contrary, play on Klitschko’s rating. And then, you will see how Ukraine will get a president who perfectly symbolizes its current image: a talker, unable to create, but ready to shake his fists as he should.
