Klinsmann on Hertha exit: “questionable”

Jürgen Klinsmann struck self-critical tones. In a video chat on Wednesday evening, he described the circumstances of his sudden resignation as coach from Hertha BSC as “questionable”. The 55-year-old said that he wanted to apologize for the manner in which he was resigned from the Berlin Bundesliga club after only eleven weeks in office.

He should “have taken more time, talked more to the Hertha leadership,” added Klinsmann. The decision had matured in him for weeks. The reason for his resignation were differences of opinion about the division of competencies between him as trainer and sports director Michael Preetz. This “unbelievably bumped into him”. Klinsmann said he was in a contractless state with the Berliners until the very end.

He left open his remaining on the supervisory board of Hertha. “It’s up to everyone at Hertha, I have no problem with that. People should say how they want it, ”said the Swabian. Klinsmann had surprisingly resigned as head coach after only eleven weeks on Tuesday. He had announced that he would like to return to his role on the Hertha control committee in the future.

Klinsmann was named by donor Lars Windhorst for a position on the supervisory board of GmbH & Co. KGaA at the beginning of November after Tennor Holding increased its stake to 49.9 percent for a total of 224 million euros. Klinsmann left this post when he took over as head coach just three weeks later.

Klinsmann announced his Facebook chat at short notice. He gave a 13-minute monologue and did not answer any of the many questions that fans asked him in writing. Nothing has been decided about his successor as a coach, according to the current status, his former assistant Alexander Nouri should at least be responsible for the game at SC Paderborn on Saturday.
