24th Colombia, 28th Uruguay Debut ‘Klins Manho’
“I don’t have enough time to figure out the players, so I’m a member of the Qatar World Cup”
Calling players on the 20th… Tottenham’s old and new legend’ Klinsman and Son Heung-min’s first meeting
(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Ahn Hong-seok = As coach Jurgen Klinsmann took office as the new head coach of the Korean men’s national soccer team, a new challenge for Korean soccer toward the 2026 World Cup in North and Central America begins.
According to the Korea Football Association on the 7th, coach Klinsman will arrive at Incheon International Airport in the early morning of the 8th.
As the first A match period (20-28 days) begins with less than 15 days left, the time between coach Klinsman and the Korea Football Association is expected to pass breathlessly.
Coach Klinsman will first hold an inauguration press conference at 2:00 p.m. on the 9th at the Swiss Grand Hotel in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul.
Immediately after that, they start preparing for two evaluation matches in March, which will be their debut stage.
Korea will face Colombia at Munsu Soccer Stadium in Ulsan at 8:00 pm on the 24th, and Uruguay at Seoul World Cup Stadium at 8:00 pm on the 28th.
As ‘Cleans Manho’ is a place to show the fans, it is a game that cannot be prepared in vain even if there is no time.
The list will not be significantly different from the final list for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
An official from the Korea Football Association explained, “Coach Klinsman didn’t have enough time to get to know each Korean player right away, so this time we negotiated a list of players who went to the World Cup in Qatar, excluding injured players, to participate in the March evaluation match.”
The announcement of the list is expected to be made on the 13th, according to custom, about a week before the convocation.
Coach Klinsman and the Football Association must also select coaches before the A-match period.
It seems likely that the coaching staff will be formed in such a way that foreign coaches brought by coach Klinsman play a pivotal role in team management, and Korean coaches serve as bridges between them and the players, just like the former coach Paulo Bento’s division.
It is also important to find a ‘resting place’ for director Klinsman to stay for the next three and a half years.
The Football Association has already selected several candidates, including Ilsan, Goyang, where coach Bento stayed. When director Klinsman arrives in Korea, he plans to go to the site at an appropriate time and let him choose the accommodation himself.
Until the residence is ready, coach Klinsman stays at a hotel and prepares for the evaluation match.
Since the ‘World Cup round of 16 heroes’ will stand in front of their home fans as they are, it is expected that these two warm-up games will be held in a festive atmosphere.
However, as coach Klinsman, it is the first test bed to separate ‘players to carry’ and ‘players to discard’, so the ‘internal competition’ to get his attention will be more fierce than ever.
The first meeting between manager Klinsmann and Son Heung-min, which will be produced around the 20th, the convening day, is itself an ‘incident’ for Korean football and Tottenham.
Coach Klinsmann from Germany is revered as a ‘legend’ for his great success, such as saving the team from relegation by playing for one and a half seasons twice in Tottenham in the mid-to-late 1990s.
Son Heung-min has been responsible for Tottenham’s attack for eight seasons. In his last season, he was also the EPL top scorer. There is a connection with Germany where he learned soccer and made his professional debut and made his name known on the European stage.
Fans expect coach Klinsman and Son Heung-min to perform better than the World Cup in Qatar at the World Cup in North and Central America.
Through this evaluation match, coach Klinsman begins to draw a blueprint for the World Cup round of 16.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup, which is expected to be held in Qatar in January next year, is the stage for an interim inspection.
The last time Korea won the Asian Cup was in 1960. If Klins Manho achieves his first championship in 64 years, he is expected to gain momentum in his World Cup challenge.
