Düsseldorf While most Europeans are asleep, the North American professional leagues are buzzing. What Happened That Night in American Football, Basketball, and Ice Hockey.
The German basketball players Maximilian Kleber and Isiah Hartenstein have taken another step towards play-off participation with their clubs in the North American professional league NBA – and each made a significant contribution to the success. Kleber was the dominant player under the boards with 14 rebounds in the Dallas Mavericks’ 95-92 win over the Boston Celtics, Hartenstein contributed twelve points and four rebounds to the Los Angeles Clippers’ 106-102 win over the Detroit Pistons.

With 14 main round games remaining, Dallas is the fifth-best team in the Western Conference, with the top six going straight to the playoffs. Hartenstein’s Clippers consolidated eighth place in the west. The clubs in places seven to ten have the chance to reach the finals via the play-in tournament.

Franz and Moritz Wagner lost with the Orlando Magic 114:116 against the Philadelphia 76ers. Franz contributed six, Moritz Wagner ten points. National player Dennis Schröder was absent from the Houston Rockets in the 105:130 against the New Orleans Pelicans due to illness. Details were not known.

Superstar Kevin Durant caused a stir. He scored 53 points in the Brooklyn Nets’ 110-107 against the New York Knicks.

LeBron James makes 10,000. Submission to NBA

Basketball superstar LeBron James has reached the next milestone in his exceptional career. The 37-year-old from the Los Angeles Lakers made his 10,000 on Sunday (local time). Submission in the North American professional league NBA. James is now the only player in NBA history with at least 30,000 points, 10,000 rebounds and 10,000 assists. But that didn’t give him much joy at first. The Lakers went down 111-140 in the game at the Phoenix Suns and have now suffered ten away bankruptcies in a row.

The best pitcher for the Suns, who are currently the best team in the league, was Devin Booker with 30 points. James had 31 points, but because he was already far behind, he didn’t play in the last quarter. When asked about his record, he said: “I’m speechless every time something like this happens to me. I dreamed of being in this league and now I’m the only one with such a statistic in this league.”

Kaepernick doesn’t give up: training with Seahawks receiver Lockett

Apparently Colin Kaepernick hasn’t given up hope of a comeback in the NFL and reminded himself with social media posts with the teams shortly before the transfer window opened. The quarterback made himself unpopular with his peaceful protest against racism and police violence in 2016 and has been without a job in the world’s best football league ever since. Before the weekend, the 34-year-old posted a short sequence of himself on the pitch. On Sunday, he searched for professionals via Twitter to train with whom he could throw passes – and received an offer from Seattle Seahawks receiver Tyler Lockett relatively quickly.

Kaepernick led the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl at the end of the 2012 season and was considered one of the league’s best playmakers. His protest then caused a stir, and in the meantime there was an out-of-court settlement with the NFL because of his complaint that he was subsequently discriminated against. At least since the death of George Floyd caused by a white police officer and the subsequent mass protests against racism, the perception of Kaepernick’s actions in the United States has changed. Since then he has been waiting in vain for a new chance in the NFL. Beginning March 16, NFL teams will officially be allowed to sign new player contracts.

NFL quarterback Mahomes got married

NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes has married his longtime girlfriend Brittany Matthews. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback posted wedding photos to social media over the weekend, writing, “Mr. & Mrs. Mahomes”. Their one-year-old daughter can also be seen in some of the photos. The 26-year-old and his wife have known each other since high school.

NFL: Patriots release Jakob Johnson

With the German football professional Jakob Johnson (27) and the New England Patriots, there are signs of separation. As several US media reports, the six-time Super Bowl winner from the National Football League (NFL) has decided against a so-called tender. The fullback from Stuttgart can negotiate freely with other clubs from Monday.

Johnson has played in 38 games for the Patriots since 2019, and in 2020 he caught his first touchdown in the NFL in a game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Durant towers over the Knicks with 53 points in the New York duel Nets

With his season-best 53 points, Kevin Durant led the Brooklyn Nets to a home win over the New York Knicks in the North American basketball league NBA. Just a point shy of his career best, Durant topped Sunday’s 110-107 to give the Nets the crucial three-pointer the team held on to in the final minute.

Of the three stars in the Nets team, Durant was the only one who was used in the duel between the New York teams. Newcomer Ben Simmons is not fit yet, Kyrie Irving is not allowed to play in New York because of the lack of vaccination against the corona virus.

However, with spectators no longer required to be vaccinated as opposed to people at work, Irving was able to watch a home game from the stands for the first time this season and witnessed Durant’s outstanding performance. The 33-year-old also had six rebounds and nine assists. The best pitcher for the Knicks was Julius Randle with 26 points. The Knicks’ chances of qualifying for the playoffs are dwindling, while the Nets can still hope for playoff games without further detour.
