Klaus Iohannis enacts law: Preventing breastfeeding in public places becomes a misdemeanor – News by sources

On Wednesday, President Klaus Iohannis promulgated the law on breastfeeding in public spaces, informs the Presidential Administration. The normative act stipulates that the prohibition in any way of breastfeeding a child in the public space or the eviction from the public space of a mother breastfeeding a child constitutes a contravention.

The law regulates the establishment of measures to prevent discrimination against nursing mothers, as well as to combat the violation of the right to food of children.

It is also proposed to regulate the sanctioning regime for some acts related to breastfeeding the child up to 24 months in public.

„The following acts constitute contraventions: a) the evacuation from a public space of a mother who has the right to be in that space and who is breastfeeding a child; b) the prohibition, in any way, of breastfeeding a child in public spaces; c) the refusal to provide services to a person because he is breastfeeding a child, in the conditions in which the person has the right to benefit from the respective service ”, according to the draft law.

The provided contraventions are fined between 100 and 500 lei, if the deed is committed by a natural person and from 1,000 lei to 2,000 lei, if the deed is committed by a legal entity or by an entity registered at the National Office of the Trade Register.

The ascertainment of the contraventions and the application of the sanctions are made by the authorized persons from the National Authority for Consumer Protection, the Ministry of Internal Affairs or the local Police, as the case may be.

The head of state also signed the decree for the promulgation of the law amending art. 10 of Law no. 186/2003 on supporting and promoting written culture

„Art. 10. – (1) The central and local public administration authorities, as well as the public institutions may grant, for the realization of some projects in the field of written culture, scholarships, creative scholarships, as well as study and travel grants, in the country and abroad .

(2) The patrimonial rights regarding the works created within the creative scholarships financed according to the present law belong to the beneficiary author of the scholarship.

(3) The authorities of the central and local public administration, as well as the public institutions, alone or in partnership with non-governmental organizations with cultural profile or with companies, may organize creative residency programs in the field of written culture.

(4) The creative scholarships may cover: accommodation, utilities for the accommodation space, as well as a fee, granted monthly or for the entire period of residence ”, according to the normative act promulgated by Klaus Iohannis.

He also promulgated the law on the abolition of the “Gheorghe Cristea” Romanian University of Sciences and Arts in Bucharest, according to the quoted source.
