Klaten (ANTARA) – The Klaten Regency Government, Central Java will immunize hundreds of thousands of residents following the polio extraordinary event (KLB) status some time ago.
Acting Head of the Klaten District Health Service, Anggit Budiarto in Klaten, Thursday, said that 118,600 people in the area were the target recipients of immunization at the National Immunization Subweek held simultaneously in Central Java and East Java Provinces.
“Simultaneous immunization will be carried out for children under seven years in all areas of Central Java and East Java, starting on January 15,” he said.
Polio vaccination is carried out in two stages. The first stage is targeted to be completed in one week, then repeated again at least one month later.
The KLB was determined after the discovery of one positive case in a six year old girl in Manisrenggo District.
“At that time, surveillance was carried out, starting with a trip to Sampang, Madura. Returned home because his mother was giving birth, there for 1.5 months. Returned from there, after four days of fever,” he said.
Next, he said, the child was treated at a health clinic. At that time, the fever resolved but symptoms appeared of the legs not being able to support the body when walking.
“Automatically an examination was carried out, finally referred to Sardjito (Dr Sardjito Hospital Yogyakarta). There an examination was carried out due to suspicion of the polio virus. Biofarma came out with positive results. On December 22, the Ministry of Health stated that there was one positive case of polio. In accordance with the Health Law, there was a new case and previously there had been no cases, declared as an extraordinary event,” he said.
As a result of this incident, he said, 30 children in the area who had a history of contact with the child were examined to find out whether they were infected with the polio virus.
“There are criteria because coincidentally the WHO (World Health Organization), the Ministry of Health, the Central Java Provincial Health Service were all here for ten days to carry out surveillance,” he said.
However, he said, currently the results of the examination of the 30 children have not yet appeared.
“These 30 children had their feces tested to find out whether there was a virus, the results have not yet come out,” he said.
