Solopos.com, KLATEN — Pemkab Klaten held a countermeasures coordination meeting HIV/AIDS, Friday (7/7/2023). From that meeting, socialization will be focused on youth groups following the increasing trend of finding cases from groups of men having sex with men (MSM), especially among teenagers.

The coordination meeting was held at the Klaten Regional Secretariat and was attended by Deputy Regent of Klaten Yoga Hardaya, representatives from AIDS Commission (KPA) Klaten, Government Assistant and Klaten People’s Welfare, to the head of the regional apparatus organization (OPD).

KPA Klaten secretary, Ronny Roekmito, said the condition of HIV/AIDS had not decreased because people affected by HIV/AIDS had to undergo lifelong treatment.

The number of cases only decreases if there are no additional cases or there are people with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) who die. The estimated number of people living with HIV/AIDS or PLHIV in Klaten is currently 1,436 people.

Meanwhile, 1,306 people living with HIV have been detected. Then there were 1,096 people living with HIV who were detected and were still undergoing treatment.

Ronny explained that viral load tests to measure the amount of HIV virus in the blood are currently available at Balkesmas and RSUP dr Soeradji Tirtonegoro Klaten. “We hope that the two health facilities can increase the viral load test. So that we can find out the benchmarks for HIV/AIDS in Klaten,” said Ronny.

Ronny explained that there was a trend in finding HIV/AIDS cases for risk factors for men having sex with men (MSM). The findings of HIV/AIDS cases on the risk factors for MSM recently emerged from the teenage age group.

“In middle school and high school. Currently, the number of HIV/AIDS findings from MSM is 126 people [data kumulatif]. The upward trend was especially during the pandemic,” said Ronny.

Because of this, in 2023 socialization related to HIV/AIDS in Klaten will be focused on targeting youth groups starting from the junior high, high school, to university levels. The socialization was carried out by cooperating with youth groups and specialist doctors.

Influenced Lifestyle

“The plan is for each sub-district to have 10 people get socialization. Then prepared teachers at the junior and senior high school levels, including visiting universities later [untuk sosialisasi bahaya HIV/AIDS],” she said.

Asked about the cause of the increasing number of HIV/AIDS cases in the MSM group, Ronny said that it tends to be influenced by lifestyle. “Indeed, some are motivated by the economy with the lure of getting money or cellphones,” he said.

Prevention efforts have so far been carried out so that youth groups do not fall prey to MSM who are risk factors for HIV/AIDS. Apart from being prone to transmitting the HIV virus, this sexual behavior is prone to other sexually transmitted infections.

“All this time, we continue to urge parents to continue to monitor their children’s interactions. Routinely check or you could say raid children’s cellphones, “he said. Raids are necessary so that parents know who their children communicate with and what their children watch on cellphones.

Deputy Regent of Klaten, Yoga Hardaya, said that the tendency for people with HIV/AIDS or PLWHA to be at a productive age and the percentage of PLWHA from men is higher than for women.

“The tendency of sufferers with this percentage is higher, they are men than women and usually they are of productive age. This is our concern. Until May there were more than 1,000, where data could be collected on these sufferers but could not be published,” he said.

Yoga asked all related OPD heads of the Klaten Regency Government to always coordinate to prevent and deal with HIV/AIDS in Klaten. “An evaluation needs to be carried out for handling and determining future steps so that Klaten can reduce the number of additional cases of HIV/AIDS,” said Yoga.
