From today, November 21, to December 1, “Klasika” will play the series of seven programs “In the Shadows”, created by Baltic and Nordic music editors.
A bit of history. On May 12 and 13, 2022, a meeting of Baltic and Nordic music producers was held in Riga, where it was decided to join forces in a joint project that would bring to light undeservedly forgotten music and its authors.
Estonia, Iceland, Lithuania, Finland, Sweden and Latvia are involved in the intriguing project, hoping that this series of stories will at least partially prove and explain why one or another author and his music have been overshadowed by others. Did it happen for aesthetic reasons (too modern or too old-fashioned music), or for political or social reasons (censorship, restrictions imposed by gender or nationality)?
“Believing that it is high-quality music and very interesting personalities that we talk about in the programs of the “Shadow” project, we have also shared what we have done with the Euroradio audience, offering the life stories of a total of nine composers (whose birth years span the period from 1839 to 1962) and music,” say the creators of the project.
The first broadcast of the series is dedicated to the Icelandic composer Atli Heimir Sveinsson (Atli Heimir Sveinsson, 1938–2019), who is introduced by Dāvis EnĖelis.
