See Copilot as your second pilot – not autopilot.

On March 15, a thousand curious visitors gathered at the Grand Hôtel in Stockholm to take part in reports, news and seminars about Microsoft’s services and products. Unexpectedly, most of it revolved around the big talk of the last six months; Copilot for Microsoft 365.
Microsoft Ignite is an annual event that brings together technology enthusiasts, decision makers and the rest of the IT industry to share knowledge about AI, cloud services and other current areas. In March, Stockholm was thus the host city for the conference. One of those who took the stage is Tommy Clarke, Cloud Productivity Expert at Exobe which is one of Microsoft’s partners on the Swedish market.
– There is still a great deal of curiosity about Copilot. Many have tested, but may not have seen the connection between Copilot and other Microsoft products. And then you don’t get the expected results either. One must not see Copilot as an individual part, but as a complement that accelerates utility and productivity within the entire Microsoft portfolio. Not least within Teams, where Copilot is a huge asset through notes, compilation of meetings and similar moments that otherwise take a lot of time and energy.
Don’t pass on all the responsibility.
According to Tommy, many people make the mistake of seeing Copilot for Microsoft 365 like an autopilot instead of, as the name suggests, a copilot. From the stage, he makes a clear comparison:
– When a flight captain turns on her autopilot, she can disconnect and do other things. She doesn’t even have to stay in the cockpit. But Copilot for Microsoft 365 will never do the job for its user the way an autopilot does. Copilot is rather a second pilot who sits alongside and keeps track. It sees the same gauges as you, can press the same buttons as you, and so on. But it can’t do anything you can’t. So it is important to de-dramatize the whole AI debate and instead see Copilot as an assistant, says Tommy in front of the large audience.
Unclear questions produce unclear answers.
Tommy also emphasizes the importance of being patient and teaching your Copilot gradually. In the audience were several people who were disappointed after their first meetings with Copilot. But just like a human assistant, it won’t be fully learned from day one.
– In the beginning, I myself was not particularly impressed by Copilot. I found it gave lazy answers to my questions and prompts. Then I understood that it was me who had been lazy and had not been able to give sufficiently clear instructions. If you want to get the maximum effect from Copilot, you have to spend time asking questions in the right way. My best tip is to ask Copilot how it wants you to ask questions. Then you get clear instructions and tips that make the interaction better, concludes Tommy Clarke in front of a packed Grand Hôtel.
