KKN 170 active students conduct Community Service in Lamparan Hamlet to prevent Dengue Fever

KKN Collaborative Group 170 students who are currently doing a work program in Kertosari Village are conducting outreach and education activities regarding the prevention of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DBD) for the residents of Lamparan Hamlet. This activity was collaborated with the Youth Group of the village of Lamparan and was carried out from house to house (door to door) so that residents would have a better understanding and know the symptoms and threats of the disease caused by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

This activity is part of a program of work aimed at increasing public health awareness. “We see that the risk of dengue fever in the rainy season is very dangerous right now. Therefore, we have made the campaign to inform residents about how to recognize early symptoms of dengue fever and effective preventive measures,” said the City Coordinator.

This educational activity was done by sharing students in each RT in Lamparan Hamlet, by presenting material that was easy for the community to understand. Students explained in detail what dengue fever is, how this virus spreads, and the early symptoms that are often ignored. Dengue fever is not only characterized by high fever, but it can also be accompanied by headache, pain behind the eyes, nausea, vomiting, body aches and even nosebleeds. It is important for us to seek medical help immediately if we experience these symptoms.

In addition, students also emphasized the importance of prevention through the 3M Plus program, which includes draining reservoirs, tightly closing water sources, and recycling used products that can collect rainwater. In addition, the public is also invited to do environmental work, and pour combustible powder in water without stopping in water reservoirs that are difficult to drain, use mosquito nets when sleeping , and to avoid the habit of hanging clothes in the house that could be a resting place. for mosquitoes.

Personal documentation of student activities

This educational activity is not only theoretical, but is also equipped with direct practice in the field. KKN students invite residents to check the environment around where they live to look for possible mosquito nests. Several residents were seen actively helping to clear clogged gutters, burying used cans, and disposing of standing water in flower pots and used tires.

“By keeping the environment clean, we can prevent the breeding of mosquitoes that cause dengue fever. We hope that this activity can be the beginning of good practices in Lamparan Hamlet,” said one of the students involved in this activity.

Not only imparting knowledge and practical application, the KKN students also displayed posters containing important information about dengue fever and ways to prevent it. It is hoped that this poster will be a guide for residents in maintaining their own and their families’ health. In addition, residents were also given a repellent powder that can be used to kill mosquito larvae in ponds.

The enthusiasm of the residents of Lamparan Hamlet is very high for this activity. One resident called Mrs Meli (35) thanked the students. “We understand more about the dangers of dengue fever and how to prevent it. Before, many of us did not know how important it was to keep the environment clean to prevent this disease avoid,” he said.

The Head of Lamparan Hamlet, Mr. Buang Slamet, also appreciated the activities done by the KKN students. He hopes that this activity will have a positive long-term effect on the health of the people in his village. “We really support this activity and hope that residents can apply what they have learned today in their daily lives,” he said.

At the end of the activity, KKN Group students distributed 170 garbage bins in various places in all RTs in Lamparan Hamlet. These waste cans are provided as an incentive for residents to remain active in keeping their environment clean.
