KKB Wants to Thwart PON so that Papua will be Spotlighted Internationally

Deputy Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Lt. Gen. Purn Teddy Lhaksmana Widya Kusuma said the armed criminal group (KKB) of Papua increasing acts of terror for some time, terror aims to thwart the implementation of the National Sports Week (PON) next October.

Teddy said the KKB wanted to thwart the implementation of PON in order to gain international attention.

“The KKB also intends to thwart the PON to create instability to attract the world’s attention,” said Teddy during a meeting related to Papua’s Special Autonomy at the DPR, Thursday (27/5).

Teddy said the KKKB was also active in carrying out terror specifically in the Puncak Regency, Papua. They also carry out routine consolidation with regard to the TNI-Polri guarding the area.

“Especially in the top regency, the KKB carried out acts of terror with active weapons,” he said.

Until now, said Teddy, acts of terror were still increasing in Papua. He said there were still several armed criminal groups scattered in the Central Highlands region of Papua.

If detailed, the KKB is in the areas of Intan Jaya Regency, Lani Jaya Regency, Mimika Regency or Tembagapura District, Nduga Regency, Paniai Regency, Puncak Jaya Regency, and Bintang Mountains Regency. .

“Currently, those active in Puncak and Intan Jaya districts are the Tabuni group, the Lelagak group and the Murib military,” he said.

Teddy said BIN continues to provide support to the TNI-Polri Task Force to continue pursuing and eliminating KKB. One of them is by cutting off the logistics network.

“And also empowering Papuan Special Autonomy support groups and creating counter-propaganda opinions by using legal experts and observers to weaken the KKB’s provocations,” he said.
