Police say a builder named Habel Halenti (30) was shot by an armed criminal group (KKB) when he was about to return from Eronggobak Village, Ilaga District, Papua.
The Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Kombes Ahmad Musthofa Kamal, explained that the incident occurred at around 12.30 WIT. At that time, the victim planned to go with a colleague.
“At 13.00 WIT, when the victim was about to return home with the victim’s companions, on behalf of Muh Alif, two people were pointed at guns by KKB,” Kamal told reporters in a written statement, Thursday (3/6).
He recounted that the victim was held at gunpoint using a short-barreled and long-barreled weapon. According to Kamal, Abel had asked for forgiveness from the perpetrators.
“The victim had shouted ‘pardon the commander’ but was immediately shot by one of the KKB who pointed a gun,” he added.
After his colleague was shot dead, Muh Alif immediately jumped into the car and left the crime scene (TKP). He went to the Ilaga Police Station and reported the incident.
Kamal said a joint TNI-Polri team led by the Puncak Police Chief arrived at the location at around 14.00 WIT. When they arrived at the scene, the group was still being shot at by the KKB who were waiting for the members to arrive.
“He was harassed three times and a gun battle took place for about 15 minutes,” he added.
After that, the victim was successfully evacuated and taken to the Ilaga Health Center. As a result of the shooting, the victim suffered a gunshot wound to the right side of the neck until it penetrated into the mouth, and was hit by a reset on the left shoulder, until the victim died.
As well as the right side of the car door was damaged by a gunshot. The TNI-Polri are still pursuing KKB.
Previously, the West Papua National Liberation Army-Free Papua Organization (TPNPB-OPM) had beaten the drums of war with the TNI-Polri apparatus. In fact, they have chosen to carry out the location of the war in the Ilaga area, Puncak Regency, Papua.
TPNB-OPM Spokesperson Sebby Sambom said the location was chosen because it was claimed to be far from the reach of civilians.
On the other hand, the TNI admitted that it had no problem with the location of the war. In fact, the Head of Information for the Joint Regional Defense Command (Kogabwilhan) III TNI, Colonel CZI IGN Suriastawa, stated that the TNI and Polri are ready to maintain the integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia.
