Sheikh Ali Amin, a cleric and imam representing the Islamic community in Beni city, DRC, was shot dead by KKB on Saturday night while praying at a mosque.

Beni’s mayor, Modeste Bakwanamaha, said Sheikh Ali Amin was shot at around 19.00 local time.
According to local military officials, he was quoted as saying Anadolu Agency, Monday (3/5/2021), there was a “serious threat” against priests who oppose radicalism and local armed groups.
The killers have not been identified. However, the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) group is active in eastern DRC.
ADF rebels, who originated in northeast Uganda in the 1990s, have attacked and killed civilians, as well as UN personnel in eastern DRC over the past few years.
To detain the armed group, President Félix Tshisekedi declared a state of siege on Friday in the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri, which border Uganda.
The ADF earlier raided the village of Kyaninga, which borders Uganda, on Thursday night and killed six civilians.

The DRC has been plagued by violence for years as rebel groups battle each other or fight against the country’s military and UN forces.
According to the United Nations, exploitation of natural resources continues to be a root cause and trigger for conflict, with most armed groups putting their political demands aside and engaging in the mineral trade.
