A resident earlier told the AFP news agency that the series of attacks began with a shooting on a bus en route to Chinedogar, which killed about 20 people.
Others said the victims were shopping in Banibangou, a popular market town close to the Mali border.
Neither group has claimed the attack, which took place on Monday.

However, there are currently two armed criminal groups (KKB) in Niger – one in the west near Mali and Burkina Faso, and one in the southeast on the border with Nigeria.
In a statement read on public television, the Niger government said that a group of unidentified gunmen intercepted four vehicles carrying passengers home from the weekly Banibangou market to the villages of Chinedogar and Darey-Daye.
“The victims of this barbaric act (were) 58 killed, one wounded, a number of grain warehouses and two vehicles were burned, and two more vehicles were confiscated,” he added as quoted by Antara. BBC, Wednesday (17/3/2021).
The government also announced a three-day period of national mourning, starting Wednesday.
