The celebrities don’t have it easy either. The big question on Friday is: Hahnenkamm or Allianz Arena, downhill spectacle or funeral service for Franz Beckenbauer?
For Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Kitzbühel weekend began with an unfriendly act at Munich airport: Welcome to Bavaria! Hollywood star or ex-governor: Customs detained “Arnie” because he had not declared a luxury watch. The officials should take his saying as a threat: “I’ll be back.” An Arnold Schwarzenegger won’t let that sit.
A jet-setting existence like that is pretty hard. And the people of Munich who have their holiday homes in Kitzbühel are now being hit the hardest. On Friday, the celebrities – especially the skiers and footballers among them – are faced with a dilemma: Kitz or Franz, Streif or Allianz Arena, downhill spectacle or funeral service for Franz Beckenbauer in the Bayern Stadium in Munich.
In Munich, star tenor Jonas Kaufmann pays tribute to his youth idol, while Chancellor Olaf Scholz has to prepare for a whistling concert. In Kitzbühel and Munich, Krethi and Plethi do the honors. But given the weekend traffic chaos, how are they supposed to reconcile both things under the Seppl hat: the Weißwurst party in Kitz and the farewell to “Franz”, the long-time Kitzbühel resident? If you don’t have a helicopter at hand, you must have the supernatural powers of an action hero à la Schwarzenegger.
