Neighbors of a house on the Van Limburg Stirumstraat in Krommenie were alerted around 7 p.m. tonight – Saturday, May 27 – by a big bang at the neighbors. It turned out to be a kitchen window at the back that had spontaneously burst due to heat and smoke development. The fire is believed to have started in the dishwasher.
In no time the house was full of smoke. Because the residents were not home at the time of the fire, the fire brigade had to force the front door. At that time it was not 100 percent certain whether there were people in the house, so an ambulance was also called, but it turned out not to be necessary.
Because the house was full of smoke, smoke was removed from the house using the ‘Venturi method’, in which the house is hydraulically ventilated by spraying water from the window. Despite the application of this ‘water curtain’, there was considerable smoke damage.
