“Kissing Can Transmit Gonorrhea to the Throat, Study Says”

Jakarta

Gonorrhea, also known as gonorrhea, is a sexually transmitted disease that can be experienced by both men and women.

Many think this disease is a disease that can only be transmitted through intimate organs. Apparently, a research shows that kissing can also transmit gonorrhea to the throat area.

Quoted from The Independenta study released in the Journal of Sexually Transmitted Infections revealed that ‘deep kissing’ or ‘french kissing’, namely deep kissing the mouth using the tongue, can be a cause of the spread of gonorrhea infection in the throat.

Although widely known as ‘gonorrhea’, gonorrhea can also infect other areas of the body, such as the rectum, throat, and eyes.

So far, researchers have not been able to confirm whether gonorrhea in the throat can be contracted through kissing alone or there are other triggering factors.

“It has been suggested that gonorrhea can be contracted through kissing, but kissing has always been an overlooked risk factor for gonorrhea transmission,” said Chow, one of the researchers on the study.

According to Chow, using an antiseptic mouthwash might be an effective way to reduce the risk of spreading gonorrhea to the throat. Now, Chow and the research team are conducting further research to see the effectiveness of using this mouthwash.

“If it really works, it can be a simple and inexpensive intervention for everyone,” he added.

Quoted from the NHS, the main symptoms of gonorrhea in women include pain when urinating, unusual discharge or vaginal discharge, or bleeding between menstrual periods.

Whereas in men, symptoms generally include swelling of the testicles and the appearance of pus or thick fluid with an unusual color from the penis.
