Kirandeep Kaur, the wife of Khalistani separatist leader Amritpal Singh, was detained at the Amritsar airport while trying to flee to London on 24 June. Customs officials are questioning Kaur, who is a UK passport holder and has not had any cases filed against her in Punjab or elsewhere in India. Kaur’s detention was a precautionary measure, officials said. In March, Kaur was questioned at Jallupur Kheda village regarding alleged foreign funding for Singh’s activities. Singh, the head of Waris Punjab De, a group formed by actor-activist Deep Sidhu, remains on the run.
