Kira Weidle: “We are grateful that the sport is taking place”

Deutsche “One-woman-show” im Speed

Despite the lack of spectators, the atmosphere at the awards ceremony was good thanks to the large support team. Her homeland club – SC Starnberg – also supported her well from home. The DSV speed specialist was born in Stuttgart, but grew up in Starnberg and feels “more at home” there. Weidle is also relying on the young skiers there: “SC Starnberg has done an excellent job in recent years. I am sure that something will come”, the 24-year-old praised her club. And these offspring would be important, because Weidle is currently the only German World Cup rider in the speed disciplines.

“It would be nicer if there were still a few fellow campaigners at the start.” Kira Weidle

DSV team “grateful” for top sport privilege

Weidle appreciates her privilege as a top athlete to be able to drive World Cup races and the World Cup despite the ongoing corona pandemic. “It’s great that it all works like this,” she said. Especially at the beginning of the season there was a lot of uncertainty about “how this should take place” – especially with regard to travel and quarantine regulations. Weidle was all the happier that the competitions were largely taking place normally. “It’s nice when you can practice your sport, your passion and your job”.
