– Almodóvar’s favorite actress, Penelope Cruz, starred in “Parallel Mothers.”
A screening of Pedro Almodovar’s latest film “Parallel Mothers” will open the 35th edition of the “Kinomania” festival today. A day later, the French Lumiere Film Festival will begin with the acclaimed Annette film starring Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard.
“Kinomania 2021” will continue until December 5 in Hall 1 and Lumiere Cinema in the National Palace of Culture, as well as in the partner cinemas – “House of Cinema”, “Odeon”, “Vlaykova”, “Slaveykov” Hall of the French Institute, G8 and “Eurosinema”. The screenings will be held with a green certificate requirement.
Premiere of a film about Boyan Petrov
As part of the “Films of the Year” program, seven new films will have their first meeting with Bulgarian viewers. The documentary “I’m Here Again”, dedicated to the last ascent of the climber Boyan Petrov, will make its debut at the festival.
One of the big film events of the festival is the premiere of the Bulgarian film “Uncle Christmas” directed by Ivaylo Penchev.
Other interesting titles in the program include “Hero” by director Asgar Farhadi, who won the Grand Prix at Cannes and is Iran’s Oscar nomination. Director Zhang Imou’s film “On the Edge of Risk” (the Chinese Oscar nomination) and Kenneth Branagh’s “Belfast” are also one of the contenders for an Oscar.
The selection also includes “Respect”, which traces the beginning of Aretha Franklin’s creative path. “The Man’s Worst Personality” will also be screened at “Kinomania”, for which actress Renate Raineswe won an award for a female role in Cannes.
“Bergman’s Island,” “The Last Bus” with actor Timothy Spole and “The Duke” with Helen Mirren and Jim Broadbent are other interesting titles.
The movie buff of the year is wanted
For another year, the “Cinema Man of the Year” award will be presented to the person who has watched the most films presented at “Cinema Mania”. Tickets are accepted as proof of watching the tapes, regardless of the cinema or the city where there are screenings (Sofia, Varna and Plovdiv). The prize for the spectator with the largest number of tickets is free access to all films from the festival program next year. The last winner presented 42 tickets.
