A good movie program pays off. Double for the Kino am Kocher: the cinema was awarded the 2021 Film Program Award by the Minister of Culture and Media, Claudia Roth, and at the same time viewers thanked for the excellent selection of films with a record number of visitors this October.

“As an arthouse cinema, we aim to show other films differently and at the same time we want to reach as many audiences as possible. It’s always a balancing act,” says board member Jürgen Volmer, head of the program group. Together with fellow board member Sabine Heusel-Gentner and supervisory board members Eva Knörrich and Heike Brucker, he was able to receive the Berlin 2021 Film Program Award at Kino International. The prize is also endowed with 7,500 euros. “We are happy with the prize and also with the cash prize, because everyone at Kino am Kocher works on a voluntary basis and we do not receive any funding or grants, but we have to convince our viewers with our films and our special cinema,” says Sabine Heusel. -Gentner.

Kino am Kocher did not have an easy start in its new home, the Kulturbahnhof. It started in the middle of the pandemic; The crown lockdown and restrictions initially paralyzed film operations. “Our work is paying off and we were able to reach a record number of visitors in both September and October. More than 1,800 spectators came to our film performances last month, “says CEO Walter Heichel.” We are cautiously optimistic about the future, but we would like to see the same seating capacity as before from Corona in our cinema on Schleifbrückenstrasse, “says Heichel.

“In addition to the shows at 5:30 pm and 8:15 pm, our guarantee of success is our cooperation. There are no limits to creativity here, “says Heike Brucker, promoting special performances. For example, the” Sing4Joy “choir held a small concert in the KubAA foyer after the screening of the film” Unsere Herzen ein Klang “. Be it of a hospice, dementia or war in Ukraine: even difficult topics can be brought into focus through films and joint discussion and provide support to those affected, and of course the most sophisticated entertainment is not overlooked.

“A special highlight at the moment is the“ Exhibition on Screen ”series in collaboration with the Kunstverein Aalen. This is where the great artists come to the big screen, “says Bernd Jost, member of the supervisory board. The next performance on December 11 is” Degas – Passion for Perfection. “Even the little ones should become passionate about cinema and therefore the KiKiKo (KInderKIno am KOcher) is a fixture on the cinema calendar. On Sunday 6th November “Peter Hase 2 – A rabbit leaves the field” will be broadcast.

“But a visit to the cinema at Kocher is more than just watching a movie. You meet up with friends and other film lovers at the cinema bar and let the evening wind down quietly, “says bar manager and board member Jürgen Schwarz.

The cooperation with the Aalen city theater and the music school is particularly important for the cinema at the Kocher. The stated goal is to revitalize the Kulturbahnhof. On Friday 11 November, the Kocherkino, together with Thomas Maile, will host the “Pecha Kucha Night” in the KubAA. “Culture is an important localization factor for Aalen and we are delighted that we as Kino am Kocher can make an important contribution here,” emphasizes Heike Brucker.
