“As an arthouse cinema, we aim to show other films differently and at the same time we want to reach as many audiences as possible. It’s always a balancing act,” says board member Jürgen Volmer, head of the program group. Together with fellow board member Sabine Heusel-Gentner and supervisory board members Eva Knörrich and Heike Brucker, he was able to receive the Berlin 2021 Film Program Award at Kino International. The prize is also endowed with 7,500 euros. “We are happy with the prize and also with the cash prize, because everyone at Kino am Kocher works on a voluntary basis and we do not receive any funding or grants, but we have to convince our viewers with our films and our special cinema,” says Sabine Heusel. -Gentner.
Kino am Kocher did not have an easy start in its new home, the Kulturbahnhof. It started in the middle of the pandemic; The crown lockdown and restrictions initially paralyzed film operations. “Our work is paying off and we were able to reach a record number of visitors in both September and October. More than 1,800 spectators came to our film performances last month, “says CEO Walter Heichel.” We are cautiously optimistic about the future, but we would like to see the same seating capacity as before from Corona in our cinema on Schleifbrückenstrasse, “says Heichel.
“In addition to the shows at 5:30 pm and 8:15 pm, our guarantee of success is our cooperation. There are no limits to creativity here, “says Heike Brucker, promoting special performances. The cooperation with the Aalen city theater and the music school is particularly important for the cinema at the Kocher. The stated goal is to revitalize the Kulturbahnhof. On Friday 11 November, the Kocherkino, together with Thomas Maile, will host the “Pecha Kucha Night” in the KubAA. “Culture is an important localization factor for Aalen and we are delighted that we as Kino am Kocher can make an important contribution here,” emphasizes Heike Brucker.
