Kingsley Ben-Adir: Honorable Role

Kingsley Ben-Adir found it an honor to play Malcolm X.

The 34-year-old plays the dark-skinned American civil rights activist in ‘One Night in Miami’, who was murdered in 1965 at the age of 39, and admits that he felt privileged to play a man he described as an “intellectual genius” designated.

The actor now told The I newspaper: “My feeling is that he was a bona fide intellectual genius. It is an honor to play a man who means so much to so many people. This is a man who is white Feared America – he demanded respect. ” Malcolm X was previously starred by Morgan Freeman in the televised movie ‘Death of a Prophet’ and by Denzel Washington in Spike Lee’s 1992 biopic ‘Malcolm X’, but Kingsley said he could get a new spin on the film in which there is a meeting between Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, Jim Brown and Sam Cooke in a hotel room in Miami in 1964. He stated, “That was a different Malcolm. Malcolm is such a fearless hero to everyone. It’s kind of dangerous. Here we are exploring a man who must have been afraid. His life was in danger.”
