King’s Trail: Celebrity Adventure Hiking the Northern Section in Harsh Arctic Landscape

The full length of the King’s Trail is 450 kilometers, but the motley company will go along the northern section of the trail – from the village of Abisko to Nikkaloukta. It is about 120 kilometers in total. It is here that you can see the harsh Arctic landscape, small birch trees, glaciers and Sweden’s highest peak, Kebnekaisi.

The best time to hike here is the end of July and August, because then nature is still in full summer, the nights are not so cold and the weather in the harsh north is more predictable. The celebrity goes on the road in early September and hopes that the King will be gentle and friendly.

The first episode of the program is a small look at the “calm before the storm”, where each of the hikers presents how ready or not ready they are for this adventure and reveals their biggest fears.

Kristina, as the leader of the program and also of the expedition, is most afraid of the fact that one of her traveling companions and people dear to her could eventually become a stranger. “I’m afraid that at some point something physically difficult might happen to me. It will probably be physically difficult. Many of the people who will go on this trek are very dear to me, very close to me, and I’m afraid that something might go wrong, that they might not like me very much and then they won’t want to talk to me anymore. I don’t want that to happen. Please talk to me.”

Kaspars Breidak points out that he is worried about what “faces” his colleagues will show in the most difficult moments. “To a large extent, all teammates are known, but in extreme conditions we tend to change and show something that others don’t expect – I’m a little afraid of that. I think it will also be the most difficult.”

Unlike all the other hikers, Roy Rogers does not talk about fear, but says that he is more ready for the adventure than ever. “Everything has worked out in such a way that I don’t think I was more ready for this moment. It feels like I’ve been training for this all year – I’ve been going to the gym three times a week for 11 months.”

Baiba Sipeniece-Gavare expresses concern about her physical fitness – yes, she would not want to know anything about sprats, but she visits the gym, but anything can happen. “I am afraid of many things. First of all, I’m afraid that my body can say at any moment: “No, that’s it!”

Kristaps Zvejnieks, with the most extensive experience as an athlete, is the most afraid of blisters among all company members. “I have definitely not been on such a hike. What am I afraid of? I guess getting a blister on the first day wouldn’t be cool.”

Musician Būū tried to manifest the fact that walkers will meet deer on the way a day before the hike. Will it happen? Time will tell. But she certainly doesn’t want to get injured, which would make her a burden to her fellow travelers. “There are two things that scare me. One – if I get an injury… I know I’m quite fit to be able to hike, but if I do get injured… I don’t want any injury, I don’t want any braking to happen because of me. And the other thing – I’m very impatient, and I don’t know how I’ll cope if someone walks very slowly.”

Rapper Prusax seems to be the only one of the company who has never hiked and also slept in a tent. His biggest worries are also related to that – the unknown. “I’ve never been on a hike in my life, so I’m pretty freaked out about this. (..) To be honest, [man visvairāk bail] from sleeping in tents at night. Christine said it will be very cold. I really don’t like the cold.”

On the other hand, Tomas Pildegović, thinking about his biggest worries, recalls a piece of advice his father once gave him: “One piece of advice my father gave me is to never marry a woman before you have gone through difficulties together. I may not plan to marry any of the other members of this trip, but what scares me the most is what kind of face they will show on the second, third, fourth, fifth day of the expedition, when the real difficulties begin.”
