Kings part ways with Jalen McDaniels

The NBA regular season begins in a little over a week, but some teams are still making some small moves in their roster. This is the case for the Kings, who got rid of Jalen McDaniels to free up a place on the roster.

It’s clearly not the kind of transfer that will change the face of the NBA, but it’s a transfer all the same. This Monday evening, the Kings sent Jalen McDaniels (power forward, 26 years old) as well as a second round draft pick to the Spurs, if we are to believe Shams Charania d’ESPN.

Spurs plan to waive McDaniels, sources said, while Kings open roster flexibility for a potential addition down the line. McDaniels has averaged 6.9 points and 3.3 rebounds over his first five NBA seasons.

The Spurs do not plan to keep McDaniels, and will settle for a free second round draft pick. Free because San Antonio is not letting go of any players in this deal. Indeed, the interest for the Kings is to free up a place in their squad in order to be able to recruit another player during the season.

Jalen McDaniels therefore arrives on the free agent market, he who will not play a single official match with Sacramento. As a reminder, Jaden’s brother arrived at the Kings as part of the transfer of Davion Mitchell to the Raptors at the end of June. McDaniels remains on a season averaging 3.4 points in 50 games in Toronto. Before that, he showed himself to the Sixers and more particularly to the Hornets, where he achieved his best career stats (10.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.2 steals in Charlotte in 2022-23).
