King’s Day in Emmen: Special Celebrations with Royal Family Visit and Birthday Guests

The King’s Day in Emmen will be special this year, thanks to the presence of the birthday king and his family. But for 250 guests, the party accepts an additional row. It’s their birthday that day or they have something else to celebrate. That is why the city of Emmen treats them to a place of honor on the royal route.

“I think it’s very special,” says Elyse Bos of New Amsterdam. She’s still 17 now, but she’ll be an adult right on King’s Day. “And since my birthday, as a resident of the town of Emmen, is on April 27, I was invited to the birthday square. Very cool.”

That birthday square is located on King’s Day. It is a large terrace in the center of Emmen, on the corner of Hoofdstraat and Marktplein. The invited guests will receive a package and a drink, as well as a performance by the singer Jannes. “But the best part is of course the royal family visiting,” says Tiny van der Lei from Emmen.

She will be present on that day with her father-in-law Fokke, who will be 87 years old on King’s Day. “It is good that we can be here in this way. Of course we would have come to the center anyway, but now it is much easier for Fokke, who is in a wheelchair. There is a seat to We also have a ring side.”

What do birthday people expect? Elyse: “I don’t know for sure, I really hope I have a good memory. I sent a handwritten letter to the king once when I was an eleven-year-old girl. I asked if he would like to experience the King’s Games with me at our primary school, unfortunately that did not happen then.

It’s not just people from Emmen celebrating their birthday who gather on the birthday square on King’s Day. Other residents who have something to celebrate have also been invited to the party, such as Emmen residents who received a ribbon, Prince and Princess Carnival and Emmen entrepreneur of the year. During the performance of Jannes, a special place was reserved for Club Unlimited: including going out for people aged sixteen and older with an intellectual disability.
