Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Movie Review: CGI Spectacle with Lackluster Story

INTERPRETATION / Science Fiction

“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”

United States. 12 years. Director: Wes Ball

Med: Freya Allan, Diecen Lachman, William H. Macy, Oven Teague, Kevin Durand, Peter Macon

Oh, but this movie is good to watch. With special effects A lot, signed Weta Digital in New Zealand, which has been top of pop computer animation from the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, and definitely modern motion capture-pour.

That is: The monkeys are dominant (we only see a couple wise man), played by real people, and we have faces that we can read the expressions of our two-legged brothers and sisters. These acting efforts were then digitally animated according to the rules of art, and after that what we see on the screen is – voilà! – phenomena with human emotional records.

So far all well and good. If only the movie had a more original, less archaic story to tell, everything would be fun and silly. But – alas. On that level, he failsKingdom of the Planet of the Apes» us, unfortunately.

Because listen here: It’s about a young chimpanzee, Noa (life with Owen Teague) – he lives “many generations” after the death of the focus of the previous films, Caesar, who must “find himself” and “be the hero of his own story”. Just as countless young men had to in countless superhero and adventure films in the past.

We are in the future where a human virus has turned nature upside down. The apes have become wise and given the gift of speech, and humans have almost exterminated themselves. The few survivors are considered stupid as Bread.

The young, promising monkey Noa then experiences a special trauma. His town is under attack by a mysterious clan of larger beings, led by the fearsome Proximus (Kevin Durand). Monkey’s father dies, Noa barely escapes. The rest of the inhabitants are kidnapped, and put to slave labor in the kingdom that Proximus is building, modeled after the ancient Roman one.

There is one aspect of the construction of civilization that attracts more attention to the megalomaniac Proximus than any other. He will have a vault built into an open mountain, which will contain priceless technology and war material from the time when man ruled the world. (So far, Proximus and his ape army only have one weapon: Primitive Electroshock Weapons).

But Noah, yes! As his father’s son and the type of leader expected in the future, he must embark on a journey through the ruins of the destroyed human civilization. Objective: Find and free their co-principals. A daring project for an inexperienced young chimpanzee, and the risks, as usual, are many. One of them – Mae (Freya Allen, rather pale) – turns out to be more intelligent and clever than is usual for the species that are getting worse.

Fortunately, he also meets a wise old orangutan, Raka (Peter Macon), who teaches Noa a lot about life, and joins the journey. Our hero arrives in the kingdom of Proximus in time to hear the demagogue proclaiming himself “the new Caesar!”. But will he be able to save his own from a life of slavery? Make a guess.

The first movie “Planet Of The Apes” (1968) was a B movie based on a very good idea, equipped with one of the best twists ever until the end. “Kingdom Of The Planet of the Apes” is a modern B movie. blockbuster-mundur, equipped with an extensive budget ($165 million) and a generic script.

A delightful visual experience. Although to kick one gets from seeing the human-like animals at first, it must be said that it diminishes as the two hours and 25 minutes go on, and one is left looking for something unexpected, something different, just one – 1! – surprise.

It will not come. «Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes» is a typical adventure, with a bunch of ugly scenes of violence, “animals are better than people” morality and scattered, toothless attempts at humor.

But with monkeys then, rather than humans. Whether that is enough in itself must depend on the individual. (People looking for a soundboard in what they can always see – as in 2014 – link to the tragedy unfolding in Gaza.)

If you have never seen the movie “Planet Of The Apes” before – none of the three awesome resume which came between 2011 and 2017, with Andrew Serkis as Caesar – you might think of it as fat. We are though hair watch them, and suffer from advanced popcorn movie-tiredness in general, he’s probably going to leave the hall a little mumbled.

Much worse blockbusters are expected to be released during the upcoming summer season. “Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes” isn’t even the weakest movie in this one the franchiseas it is called coldly – that price goes Download Tim Burton 2001.

But it is a bit bitter that no one took more care with the script. It could be “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”. right bra
