King Willem-Alexander participated in an iftar tonight in a community center in Rijswijk. That is the meal that is eaten during Ramadan after a day of fasting, traditionally with dates and milk.
A total of ninety local residents from different backgrounds and religions joined the dinner. The mayor of the municipality of Rijswijk was the hostess. The king started several conversations with the residents present and said he thought it was important to understand each other’s traditions.
It was not the king’s first time attending an iftar. In 2019 he did the same in the Transvaal district of The Hague.
