King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima go out more in June | Inland

Last week, visits by Máxima to Texel and Willem-Alexander to Utrecht have already shown that this will not be easy. The palace will therefore have to decide to what extent royal visits are announced in advance.

The royal couple originally had no obligations in the Netherlands next week because the state visit to Germany would begin in Berlin on Tuesday. That should have been the culmination of the series of working visits to the main neighboring country that started exactly seven years ago. From 2013, the king and queen always went to a number of federal states. Only the Land of Berlin was left and that would be included in the final state visit.

A special year was chosen for this visit: 75 years after the end of the Second World War and thirty years after the reunification of Germany, and even before the departure of Chancellor Angela Merkel. Due to the corona crisis, the state visit could not continue and the question is whether it can be postponed to later this year.

Regional visits, in which the royal couple crosses part of a province, seem out of the question for the time being, because they involve a lot of public interest and undesirable displacements under the current circumstances.

The king can start again to receive credentials, if there are new ambassadors who have arrived in The Hague recently, despite all the global travel restrictions. They will not be picked up by car but by car, and shaking hands will not be there either.
