This year it is ten years since it tragic accident that has hit the Dutch royal family hard. At that time, Queen Beatrix (84) lost her son, Princess Mabel (53) her husband, and two small children lost their father.
On 17 February 2012, Prince Johan Friso and Prince Constantijn (52), brothers of the then Prince Willem-Alexander (55), went on a skiing holiday in Lech, Austria.
Ten years since the royal tragedy
Shortly afterwards, the Dutch royal family received the shocking news that their own Prince Johan Friso was taken by an avalanche. He was in a coma for over a year and a half, before he passed away on 12 August 2013, aged 44.
Queen Beatrix abdicated during the course of Prince Johan Friso’s illness. She then received the title of princess, while Prince Willem-Alexander became king.
Now the current king pays tribute to the deceased brother’s wife, according to Picturemagazine.
The news of the death naturally left the royal family in great grief, especially for Princess Mabel and the couple’s two daughters, Luana and Zaria, who were then six and five years old.
