The leap from the state league to the Upper Austria league is a huge one. One is aware of that in the camp Union PROCON Dietach deliberately. In order to be able to master that as best as possible, the promoted team is trying to raise the quality of the squad through targeted transfers. In this regard, Matej Socovka (from Blau-Weiss Linz) could represent a crucial piece of the puzzle. Two weeks ago they also found what they were looking for at the Linzers and steered a winger from the amateurs to Dietach.

Experience in the 2nd league
From now on, Matej Socovka will pull the strings in central midfield at Union Dietach and, thanks to his remarkable football skills, should take the promoted team’s game to a new level. The 22-year-old is considered to be good at dribbling, agile and lively. “He fits in very well with my playing philosophy. We were already in contact in May. At that time, however, he really wanted to stay in the professional field. Because of his studies, he has now decided to continue his career in Dietach,” informs coach Daniel Ruttensteiner. Socovka is a former youth national player in Slovakia and has a top education at the Rieder Academy. In the summer of 2020, the Young Vikings switched to Blau-Weiss in the state capital. Exactly one year ago he was promoted to the professional squad. In September he made his debut in the second division. Three more missions followed by the end of the season. The midfielder is doing his first training session for Union Dietach today.
Mihajlo Mackic showed the way
Mihajlo Mackic, who also switched to the Ruttensteiner squad from Blau-Weiss Linz, is already in his second week of training for the newcomer to the Upper Austrian league. The 21-year-old offensive man, who feels most comfortable on the wings, came from the traditional club’s amateurs. “He brings the necessary speed that we were missing in the squad. He immediately convinced me in training,” said trainer Ruttensteiner in praise of the newcomer, who scored four goals in the past season in the Landesliga Ost.
competition in full swing
Socovka and Mackic are two of a total of seven newcomers in the current transfer period. Five players have left the reigning champions of the Landesliga Ost. “After the arrivals and departures, we now have a really young squad. This now includes 20 players. The competition is fierce,” says Ruttensteiner, who will be testing with his squad against the Lower Austrian state league team from St. Peter/Au on Saturday. In exactly one week you get it in the 1st round of the state cup with the title holder of the 1st class North-East USV St. Oswald/Fr. to do before the mission Upper Austria League starts in three weeks with a home match against Union Mondsee.
