King Salman announces national holiday after Saudi Arabia wipes out Argentina

People Saudi Arabian rejoiced after the victory of his national team Argentina. Therefore, the government subsequently declared a national holiday.

Saudi Arabia made a surprise by facing Argentina in their opening match in Group C World Cup 2022, Tuesday (11/22/2022) afternoon WIB yesterday. After being trailed by Lionel Messi’s goal, Saudi Arabia came from behind in the second round.

Goals from Saleh Al Shehri in the 48th minute and Salem Al Dawsari in the 53rd minute ensured Saudi Arabia’s victory with the score 2-1. This is their fourth victory in the history of participation in the World Cup.

The win was even more special because it was won against Argentina who are big favorites for the world champions. Additionally, Team Tango went with a record 36 games unbeaten.

Therefore, it is natural for the people of Saudi Arabia to rejoice in celebrating this victory. King Salman and the royal family are no exception.

As quoted by the Saudi Times, King Salman gave a national holiday on Wednesday (11/23) local time for all public and private sector employees. Not only that, all students in Saudi Arabia are also treated equally.

What the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia did had already been done by Cameroon at the 1990 World Cup. At that time Cameroon beat the same team, then title holders Argentina, with a score of 1-0, thanks to a goal by Francois Oman-Biyik.

This victory opened Saudi Arabia’s chances of qualifying for the round of 16. Saudi Arabia currently top Group C with three points, followed by Mexico and Poland who drew goalless.

Saudi Arabian will meet Poland in the second match on 26 November.
