The second series of Krále Šumava will return to the era of the rapidly falling Iron Curtain and the rise of the communist dictatorship. In it, viewers will watch the never-ending struggle of Josef Hasil, who is looking for a way out of the communist camp to which he was sentenced to nine long years.

The love of his lovely Maria, who will be played by Gabriela Heclová, will be put to difficult tests. She will be questioned, despised by her neighbors and her father, and in addition, there will be men hanging around her who would like her to forget about Josef completely. So he has to get home as quickly as possible so that he has someone to return to.

“Viewers will have to wait another year for the second season,” mentioned creative producer Krále Šumava and development director of TV Nova and Voyo Michal Reitler. Together with director David Ondříček for the first season of the series, he recently received the main prize at the Finále Pilsen film festival for the best film or miniseries.

”We want to give the sequel enough care and time, just like we did with the first series. I’m really happy, on behalf of the entire Krále Šumava team, that in addition to the strong feedback from the audience, there was also a strong response from the experts. Especially these days, when deeply immersed in the filming of the second series of this gripping story of courage and responsibility,” added Reitler.

The continuation of the series was undertaken by director Damián Vondrášek under the directorial supervision of the creator of the first series, David Ondříček. “I enjoy the filming from a different perspective. Now I can look at it from a vantage point and rather help with advice to Damián, who is directing the whole thing. I try to consult with him from the beginning on every version of the script and above all I explain to him what I am in the first series thought and how the characters should develop,” Ondříček described.

It is a big challenge for Vondrášek. “We are trying to build on the first series as much as possible to show viewers this difficult time through a new lens. Hasil is facing major life trials, and while the first series was largely about his carefree youth and behavior, now he is coming to the consequences of his actions. The viewers so they can expect it to tighten up,” he said.

During filming, the creators will visit Šumava, Brno, Doksan, Rudolfova and other places. “We shoot all over the country. Nowadays, it’s not so easy to find authentic locations, so for us it’s a trip around our country,” added the director.

Král Šumava is created with the financial support of the Pilsen Region. “For the next two series, which are being filmed now, the choice was clear. We knew we were going for quality. We had clearly positive responses not only from the viewers, but also from the representatives of the Pilsen Region, who partially decide on the granting of financial subsidies. So we were excited that we could be helpful in the creation of two more series,” noted David Brabec from the Regional Film Office of the Pilsen Region.

“The story of the King of the Šumava reminds us of the horrors of a time that many young people cannot even imagine. That is why I consider it important to support such work, so that we preserve not only our history, but also the beautiful surroundings of the Šumava. And I am very proud of how attractive a location it is for filmmakers The Plzeň region is. I believe that in the future, not only the support of creation from the region will increase, but also that cooperation with filmmakers will develop more,” concluded the governor of the Plzeň region, Rudolf Špoták (Pirates).
