Shawky Hijab Shawky Hijab was born in El-Matareya – Dakahlia in 1946. He was brought up by an Azhari father who wrote poetry, acquired books, and loved culture, and an educated mother who reads and possesses a fertile imagination and heritage of folk examples, tales and anecdotes.
He learned poetry performances from his father and got acquainted with his library. Both his father and his older brother, the well-known poet Sayed Hijab, helped him to write poetry. Although he wrote poetry and songs for adults, writing for children has the largest share in his interests, and his creativity is distinguished in the field of television programs and dramas as well. In the Children’s Theatre, he also studied and practiced directing at the Film Institute.
The poet Shawky Hijab co-authored many songs that were presented on television and cinema, including “Sugar and Beet”, “Cookie Cake”, the song “The Chick and the Egg” from the movie “The Lover” and the lyrics of the songs of the series “The Friends Club”. He also had the experience of directing in the two parts of “Cookie”. Kak”, and the cartoon series “Tuna Nina”.
