In his first appearance after the earthquake, Mohamed VI chaired a working meeting last Saturday with civil and military officials in which he ordered the deployment of an emergency program to care for the victims and rehabilitate the damaged buildings, and decreed three days of official mourning. .
This Tuesday, the monarch spoke with several injured people admitted to the Marrakech University Hospital Center, spoke with its health personnel and inspected some of its units, before donating blood for the victims of the earthquake that hit the mountains in the south of that city causing 2 1,901 dead and 5,530 injured, according to the latest official balance.
According to the official MAP agency, the different health centers in the Marrakech region received 2,171 injured people, of which 484 were in serious condition. All, except 248 people, have already been discharged.
The Moroccan Minister of Health, Khaled Ait Taleb, said in a statement to Moroccan public television Al Oula that there are currently 75 cases in resuscitation in the different hospitals in the country due to the earthquake.
Ait Taleb, who accompanied the monarch during his visit to the Marrakech hospital, pointed out that efforts will now focus on taking care of these victims, pointing out that some of the injured, who were dedicated to agricultural activity and were the only ones who supported their families, have amputated hands or feet.
Last Friday’s earthquake, one of the worst that the country has suffered in the last century, hit the three southern regions of Marrakech-Safi, Souss-Massa and Draa-Tafilalet, where there were the highest number of deaths and injuries, and It hit the regions of Beni Mellal and Casablanca to a lesser extent.
