The case is being updated!
Earlier this year, King Harald and Queen Sonja celebrated 30 years as the country’s royal couple. On that occasion they shared new photos and greetings to the people, something they also do today.
June 23, it is 30 years since Harald and Sonja were signed in Nidaros Cathedral. Signing is, among other things, the term for a ceremony in which the monarch receives a blessing from the church at the beginning of his reign.
– These are images that symbolize celebration. The two are dressed in finesse; the king in a tuxedo and the queen in a purple creation. The same dress that she used for the first time when they celebrated 25 years on the throne in 2016 – and several times since, says See and Hear royal house expert, Caroline Vagle.
She further says that the royal couple celebrated big after 25 years on the throne in January 2016, and large parts of the year with, among other things, worship in Nidaros Cathedral on the day of the signing on 23 June.
– The 30th anniversary is thus not celebrated as magnificently, but the day is no less important for that reason, Vagle believes.
On 17 January 1991, King Olav passed away at the age of 87, and Norway thus got a new monarch in King Harald – who ascended the throne with his wife Sonja by his side, who became the first queen in Norway in over 50 years.
Greetings to the people
When they celebrated three decades on the throne in January, they sent the following greeting to the people:
“We look back with joy on hundreds of trips and visits around our beautiful country over the years. We remember encounters with people – on mountain peaks and plateaus, on the coast and in deep forests, in cities and in villages. We have shared both good, fun experiences – and sad and difficult ».
“Secret” detail attracts attention
Furthermore, the king and queen expressed their gratitude to the Norwegian people.
“We are deeply grateful that we are always received so warmly and hospitably when we visit – no matter what the occasion.”
