The British King Charles III. (75) emphasized the great importance of this part of the country for himself and his family at an anniversary event in Scotland.
«At the end of every day we are all united by our love for Scotland. Of course because of his natural beauty, but also because of his strength of character,” said the monarch in a speech on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh.
“From a personal perspective, Scotland has always held a very special place in my family’s and my hearts,” said Charles about the northern part of the British Kingdom. His grandmother – the “Queen Mum” Elizabeth (1900-2002) – was proud to be Scottish.
His mother Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) particularly valued the time in her Scottish summer residence Balmoral and decided to spend the last days of her life there.
Scottish love despite global challenges
Looking ahead to the next quarter of a century and beyond, Charles warned that there was still much to be done for Scotland, for Britain and also for the challenges of climate change and species extinction. “So let this moment be the beginning of the next chapter,” he said.
“The achievements of the past and the commitment shown in the present give us the best basis for confidence in the future.”
