LONDON —
King Charles of England is “extremely well,” his wife, Queen Camilla, declared on Thursday in her first public intervention since the 75-year-old monarch He was diagnosed with cancer.
At a charity concert held at Salisbury Cathedral in southern England, Camila said Carlos was moved by the messages of support from the public.
“It’s very good under the circumstances,” he said. “He is very touched by all the letters and messages that the public has sent him from all over. He is very encouraging,” he added.
Charles’s son and heir to the throne, Prince William, thanked the British on Wednesday for their kind messages about both his father and his wife Catherine following her recent operation.
Catalina, 42 years old, underwent abdominal surgery scheduled for January 16, and then spent two weeks in the hospital recovering.
Charles has since undergone treatment for an enlarged prostate, before Buckingham Palace announced on Monday that subsequent tests on the monarch had revealed he was suffering from a form of cancer.
Since the king has postponed his public duties to undergo outpatient treatment and Catherine is not expected to resume her engagements until after Easter, the responsibility falls on the rest of the royals, especially William and Camilla, to offer the public face of the monarchy.
