King Charles III’s Nickname for Meghan Markle Revealed in New Book: The Story Behind ‘Wolfram’

Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, was given a nickname by King Charles III when Meghan and Prince Harry were still active members of the royal family, according to royal journalist and book author Katie Nicholls.

In 2017, when Harry had recently proposed to Meghan, Charles had reportedly given his daughter-in-law a nickname. At the time, Charles was still the Prince of Wales, and the nickname is thought to have shown Meghan in a positive light.

Charles called Meghan “Wolfram,” Nicholl writes in The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy and the Future of the Crown, which was published in 2022.

Charles is said to have nicknamed his future daughter-in-law “tungsten” because of her toughness and endurance.

writes Nicola in the book. Tungsten is a type of metal known to be one of the hardest and most difficult to melt.

It is unclear whether Charles still uses this nickname to describe Meghan. She and her husband have had a strained relationship with the royal family, with the couple speaking out repeatedly about their experiences in the royal household in various interviews, a series of documentaries and Harry’s memoirs.
