King Charles III of the United Kingdom has cancer, says Buckingham Palace – 2024-02-14 19:05:15

King Charles III of the United Kingdom has been diagnosed with a form of cancer, Buckingham Palace announced this Monday.

The diagnosis came shortly after the 75-year-old monarch underwent treatment for an enlarged prostate.

“His Majesty received treatment for a benign enlarged prostate. “It was during this intervention that another matter of concern was noted and subsequently diagnosed as a form of cancer,” a palace spokesperson said.

A statement from Buckingham Palace said the king “began a program of regular treatment, during which time doctors advised him to postpone his public duties.”

According to the declaration, during this period, the king will continue to “carry out, normally, the activities and work of State.”

“His Majesty remains completely positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning fully to his public duties as soon as possible.”

“Her Majesty has chosen to share her diagnosis to avoid speculation and in the hope that it can support public understanding for all those around the world who have some form of cancer,” he added.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak issued a statement wishing “Her Majesty a full and speedy recovery.”

“I have no doubt that he will soon regain his full strength and I know that the entire country wishes him the best,” he said.

The king traveled from Sandringham, in Norfolk, to London today morning to begin his outpatient treatment. On Sunday he was at a church in Sandringham where he greeted the crowd.

The monarch is at his home in London, Sky News reported. No further details were provided about the stage of the cancer or its prognosis.
