King Charles III of England will be crowned at Westminster Abbey in London on the afternoon of the 6th local time, tonight in Korean time.
Charles III, who succeeded to the throne immediately after the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September last year, is expected to wear a crown weighing more than 2 kg at this coronation ceremony.
Queen Camilla will also be called the ‘Queen’ in the ‘Queen Consort’ starting from today’s coronation ceremony.
The coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey began with William I in 1066, and Charles III was the 40th king to be crowned here.
Charles III and his wife will depart from Buckingham Palace at 10:20 a.m. ahead of the start of the coronation ceremony at 11 a.m. local time.
The ‘King’s Procession’, consisting of the ‘Diamond Jubilee Carriage’ and about 200 Royal Guards, heads to Westminster Abbey via The Mall and Trafalgar Square.
The coronation ceremony will be officiated by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, the highest-ranking member of the Anglican Church, and the skeleton will follow tradition.
About 2,200 people attended the coronation ceremony, which was reduced to a quarter of that of the Queen’s time.
Representatives from 203 countries were invited, including about 100 heads of state.
On behalf of US President Joe Biden, Mrs. Jill Biden will attend, and other Presidents of France and heads of state of the Commonwealth will be present.
Prime Minister Han Deok-soo, who is attending as a representative of the Korean government, arrived in England on the 4th.
Unlike the coronation ceremony, the kings of major countries also attend.
While the nobility has drastically decreased, community volunteers such as ‘Corona 19 Heroes’, and figures with ties to the Charles III couple’s social welfare foundation will watch the coronation ceremony.
Prince Harry, who has a conflict with the royal family, attends alone without his wife, Meghan Markle.
