King Charles decided not to return to London today for the weekly meeting with Prime Minister Sunak. Instead, the two will speak by telephone today, as 10 Downing Street has confirmed as an exception. Normally no announcements are made about the meetings between the Prime Minister and the King.
On Monday it was announced that the king is being treated for an unspecified form of cancer. During his treatment, Charles will not perform any public duties, but will continue to conduct state business, including the weekly meeting with the British Prime Minister.
It was expected that the two would meet at Buckingham Palace, but the king decided to stay at the Sandringham estate for the time being, where he flew by helicopter with his wife Camilla yesterday. It is not known whether upcoming conversations with Prime Minister Sunak will also be handled by telephone.
Harry back to America
Before his departure to Sandringham, the king spoke with his son Prince Harry, who had flown specially from Los Angeles to London. According to British media, their meeting lasted about 45 minutes.
Afterwards, Harry would have spent the night in a hotel. As far as is known, he did not meet his brother and heir to the throne Prince William, with whom he has had a difficult relationship in recent years.
William back to work
William himself returned to work for the first time today after having no official obligations for three weeks due to his wife Catherine’s abdominal operation. He had taken time off to support his wife after her operation and to be there for their children.
He handed out ribbons to people who play an important role in their community at a ceremony at Windsor Castle this morning. Tonight he will be attending a charity gala where money is being raised for the British air ambulance organization.
Princess Catherine was released from hospital last week, but must rest until at least Easter.
